RESEARCH
Defining the problem
The current medication app falls short in providing a user-friendly solution for managing medications, leading to difficulties in tracking prescriptions, monitoring symptoms, and fostering community support. There's a clear need for an intuitive app with robust tracking features and a chat function to address these shortcomings and enhance users' proactive health management.
INSPIRATION
Personal interactions
Mood board
Having encountered issues with poorly designed medication apps, I'm motivated to create a superior solution. My vision is to develop an intuitive app that seamlessly tracks symptoms and medications, drawing inspiration from the menstruation application "Clue." Additionally, I plan to incorporate a group chat function to foster a supportive community. This app is fueled by a passion to enhance the lives of medication users, promoting connection, empowerment, and the exchange of valuable experiences.
The mood board includes clean lines and approachable graphics that would contribute to a welcoming interface, ensuring that the user experience is visually reassuring. The imagery is carefully curated to convey a sense of comfort, steering clear of clinical sterility and embracing a more human-centric approach.
SKETCHES
USER FLOW
To ensure a seamless user experience, I focused on creating an intuitive workflow throughout the app. Adding a distinctive touch, the app provides a unique platform within the discussion page, allowing users to share their thoughts and insights on specific medications, fostering a dynamic and engaging community experience.
DESIGN FEEDBACK
During our class critiques for our work-in-progress check in, I was given the following suggestions:
“ADD MEDICATION” LINE WEIGHT: Improve the visibility and alignment of the "Add Medication" button by opting for dark text on a light background.
MENU BAR LINE WEIGHT: Adjust the line weight of the bottom menu bar to align with the overall design aesthetics.
TEXT CONTRAST: Address the issue of insufficient contrast between texts “skip” and “done” and background to enhance readability.
TIME INDICATOR FOR MEDICATION FREQUENCY: Add a time indicator for medications taken multiple times a day at specific intervals.
ALARM FUNCTION: Integrate an alarm icon for medication reminders, as the absence of this feature may impact the app's functionality.
FINAL DESIGN
PillPal occupies a significant place in my design journey. As a regular medication user, I embarked on the challenge of creating an app that seamlessly combines medication tracking with social interaction. Navigating complexities such as dosage timing and the diverse impacts of medications on users, I aimed to address the nuanced needs of individuals like myself.
The most intricate aspect of the project centered around crafting the groups page. Constantly questioning what a medication user truly desires from such an app and how to make it uniquely compelling led to a captivating exploration of our target audience—essentially, a reflection of my own experiences.
